For some people, the term ‘diverse learners’ conjures the image of students who are learning disabled. Yet for a teacher, this image is an outmoded mindset. Every student has strengths and weaknesses. Every student has her own way of learning. Most importantly, every student has her own way of best expressing what she has learned.

Teachers are stressed. If you needed evidence to convince you of this fact, other than the dark circles under your eyes or the time that you spent last night worrying about whether or not today’s lesson would go over well, a recent Gallup report found that teachers’ stress levels match those of nurses and physicians “for the highest stress levels among all occupational groups surveyed.”

Congratulations on making it to the end of this year’s first term. It seems to me like the Christmas holidays arrive faster every year!

But no matter what fun you have planned, it is worth using a little of this time to take a moment and plan your next few steps. The Christmas break is the perfect time to get your head down with your teaching application. So before you crack open that bottle of bubbly, here is some great advice to help you nail your teaching application this Christmas.

While good on paper, the best paying states are often the most expensive places for teachers to live. Are the sacrifices teachers are making to teach affecting their ability to educate?

It takes a certain kind of person to be a teacher. You need patience, dedication, stamina and a degree of showmanship. However, many excellent educators find that their ideal role is not actually in front of the class but working in other areas of education.

Teaching like many social vocations, such as becoming a police officer or a firefighter, often has its ambitions deeply rooted in our first career aspirations, when little children are asked “what do you want to be when you grow up?” many answer “a Teacher”.

Often that’s due to a great teacher inspiring them to enter the profession without which, there would be no other professions. After all, a life without education is a life without options.
