Top Ten#643: Wonder of Children
This fall marks two milestones – both children now in high school and for the first time in forty years, no big back to school rush for me! Rather than teaching full- or part-time at St. Anne’s School of Annapolis, I am on sabbatical this year to focus on writing, consulting for Responsive Classroom and teaching some yoga. After many years of good fortune to wondering alongside children from ages two through thirteen at independent schools in Massachusetts, New York and Maryland, I’ve hit the pause button and will gratefully spend this time recalibrating, reflecting, and re-dedicating myself to my avocation for working with children, families, and teachers.
My passion for teaching includes a commitment to knowing each learner as an individual and creating a classroom community where the social curriculum is interwoven with the academic fabric. I’ve been a follower of the Responsive Classroom Approach for nearly 15 years and certified as a Teacher Leader through the Northeast Foundation for Children. I write often on the Responsive Classroom’s influence on children inside and outside the classroom.
